What to Consider When Starting Your Swimming Pool Wish List

wimming Pool Wish List

Choosing a swimming pool is one of the most fun decisions your family will ever make together. But without the proper planning, it can easily become overwhelming. The sooner you start comparing your options, the easier it will be to select a pool with features that everyone in your family can agree on!

Since Spring is quickly approaching, now is the perfect time to start building your own swimming pool wish list. You can do this on your own, with your family, or with our staff at any Crystal Pools location.

Here are some things to consider:

  1. Budget

Having an established budget for your swimming pool is always a great idea, because it will dictate what you’re able to afford. You can use it to prioritize items on your wish list and determine all your available options for that price range.
  2. Pool shape

The shape of your pool isn’t just an aesthetic choice. It also affects what you can do in the pool. For example, a classic rectangular pool is good for games and swimming laps. On the other hand, other styles can be good for free-form swimming, and they can be designed to fit the unique space of your landscape.
  3. Styles
You probably already know whether you want an in-ground or above-ground pool. But have you considered what type of in-ground pool you want? For example, fiberglass, liner, and so on. Each type has its own unique characteristics, so it’s important to research all your available options.
  4. Features

There’s virtually no limit to how you design your pool or the landscape surrounding it. It’s all a matter of balancing your list of wants vs. needs. For example, if your pool will primarily be used a fun spot for the whole family, then you’ll definitely want to consider things like a diving board. But if you want your pool to primarily make a dramatic statement and be used for relaxation, you’ll want to consider other landscaping options and perhaps built-in water features to make it a naturally beautiful addition to your home.
  5. Zoning
Crystal Pools will help identify the rules that will dictate your pool design, but it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with these as early as possible. Codes vary by municipality but can affect things like the distance of the pool from your home, the distance from utility lines and fencing around the pool.
  6. Landscaping

Remember to consider the many landscaping features that can enhance your pool area but aren’t include the basic installation cost of the pool. Features like outdoor lighting, furniture and pool storage sheds can add to the overall price tag, so keep that in mind as you plan your wish list.
